WHAT TO WEAR TO TESTIFY

Business casual or professional attire is recommended. Assume you are going on the job interview of your life if you plan to testify. Try to wear signage such as buttons or stickers.

HOW TO BEHAVE

We all have the same goal in mind so remember: we are on the same team! We are protecting our rights and our children's rights as well as those of our fellow citizens. Check your emotions and strive to achieve the goal you set out to achieve. Be strong, confident, and humble. Keep in mind that we are trying to convey a specific message to legislators as eloquently and calmly as possible.

STAY CALM

Please refrain from voicing your anger and frustrations to legislators. It will not help our overall cause. See TALKING POINTS above.

OBEY THE LAW

Obey the law! Capitol Police have a job to do like the rest of us. They are always understanding and hospitable to those entering with good intentions. Be on your best behavior and represent our cause in the most excellent way possible. Be conscious of your interactions with officers and show them the same respect you want in return.

BRINGING CHILDREN

Your children will most likely remember their experience on this day for a long time. It is exciting for them to participate in history. Please make sure you take care of your children by giving them materials to stay engaged all day - it will be a long one. Let them know the rules ahead of time and ask them to be on their best behavior. The day will be what you make it for them. They need to stay hydrated, fed, and occupied.

DEALING WITH MEDIA

HOW TO IDENTIFY MEDIA

Media will be wearing a press badge around their neck, carrying a video camera, regular camera and/or a notepad and pen.

WHAT TO SAY TO THE MEDIA

If you plan to speak to the media, please be prepared by reviewing our tip sheet. If you are interviewed by the media, stick to brief, factual statements that cannot be edited. Whenever possible, have someone you know record the interview. Their microphones are always recording - you are NEVER off the record.

MESSAGING

Our messaging is critical. We will not tolerate censorship or coercion any longer.
